Before starting your company
Starting is easier when you separate your activity, legal form and possible licences. This guide puts the questions before the paperwork.
If the steps feel tangled, you do not need to memorise every authority. Start with the activity and who will own it.
Short answer
Start with three decisions: the activity, its owners and any activity-specific approval. Then choose the appropriate establishment or company route.
What does it mean to start formally?
It is not about obtaining one document. Define the activity, ownership and management, register the entity, then check any activity or premises approvals. A commercial registration does not automatically replace a specialised licence.
Review the official source ↗Why does the beginning feel confusing?
Several different questions are often mixed together: registration, legal form, trade name and permission to operate at a location. Separate them before choosing a service.
Sole establishment or company?
A sole establishment may be relevant for one owner. With partners or a different management and liability structure, review company forms. The Ministry describes the limited liability company as having a separate financial estate; the best choice still depends on your circumstances.
Review the official source ↗What changed in commercial registration?
The current system provides one commercial registration per establishment nationwide and uses annual data confirmation instead of the older renewal approach. Beware of outdated guides that assume new branch registrations.
Review the official source ↗Plan before clicking Start
Describe the activity, identify owners and managers, check any prior approval, then choose the official establishment or company route. After registration, check premises and operating requirements; a shop may also need a municipal licence.

This is an illustration: an online store and a physical shop may begin with similar entity questions but face different requirements afterwards. Check the channels relevant to the actual activity and location.
When is help useful?
If activity classification, partners or specialist approvals make the route unclear, gather the facts before applying. Yusr can organise and follow the service within scope; significant legal decisions call for licensed specialist advice.
What to prepare
- Describe the activity, not only a possible trade name.
- Identify owners, managers and any partners.
- Check whether your activity needs an approval before registration.
- Prepare contact details, business address and intended activities.
Watch out for
- Commercial registration does not replace an activity-specific licence.
- Do not choose a legal form only because it looks quickest.
Common questions
Must I settle the trade name first?
No. First clarify the activity and business form, then review the name rules and prepare alternatives.
Does registration authorise every activity?
Not necessarily. The Ministry of Commerce notes that some activities need prior approval from the licensing authority.
Service scope and current prices
These amounts come from the current Yusr catalogue, not an invented government tariff. Review the scope and final total in the service form before confirming.
